Celebrating 100 years

BREVIARY. The book or books containing the official and public prayer of the Church known as the Liturgy of the Hours (also called Divine Office); that is, a set form of prayers, hymns, and readings designed to sanctify the various hours of the day; at present, the breviary contains the office of readings, morning prayer, daytime prayer, evening prayer, and night prayer. Men in Holy Orders (Bishops, Priests, Deacons) and men and women in solemn vows (Sisters, brothers) are required by Church law to pray the Liturgy of the Hours every day; all other members of the Church are strongly encouraged to do the same.
